Mary Ann Ramsden ( my 2nd great grandmother) married Sheffield born Joshua Hinchliffe in Rotherham on Christmas Day 1839. The marriage certificate reveals Mary Ann’s father as John Ramsden (soldier). Family stories talked of the Ramsdens as a prosperous Indian Army family with links to another military family called the Sykes. I can however find no details about Mary Ann’s birth, or her parents’ marriage, or indeed John Ramsden’s service record. Can anyone help please?
