SUMMARY:October Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Sheffield’s Women Workers in the First World War by Sylvia Dunkley. \nAccess to the building is from the Napier Street entrance. Parking is available in the supermarket car park opposite the entrance to the church. \nNon members are always welcome.  The meeting is free to members.  Non-members are asked to pay £1 on the door. \nMany people are aware of the role played by women workers in Sheffield during the Second World War but until now there has been little research into the employment of women in the city during the 1914-1918 War.  Come and hear local historian Sylvia Dunkley reveal how the lives of Sheffield’s Edwardian women’s were affected by this conflict and their contribution to the war effort.

SUMMARY:Family History Workshops
DESCRIPTION:As a result of suggestions from a members’ questionnaire completed in January 2016 three family history workshops have been planned for Tuesday 11 October\, Thursday 20 October and Tuesday 1 November 2016. The sessions\, aimed at helping members find ways of breaking down brick walls\, will be held at St Mary’s Church and Conference Centre\, Bramall Lane\, Sheffield\, S2 4QZ where there is free parking. The workshops will run from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and refreshments will be available to buy. \nThe presenter will be Brian Smailes who has taught family history to adults for over fifteen years. The sessions will be part taught but there will also be opportunities for individuals to seek help with their particular research problems. There should be something for everyone\, whatever their level of experience! \nThe maximum number of places for each session is 9 and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The flyer/booking form can be obtained by clicking on the following link: \nDownload booking form (PDF) \nThe forms should be returned by email to the address on the form and all cheques must be received at that address by 16 September 2016. \nIf you do not have access to a printer\, please email the required information (as outlined in the booking form) including details of the workshops you wish to attend and send your cheque by post. The cost is £5 per session and all cheques should be made payable to “Sheffield & District FHS”. (If members wish to make any additional donation\, cheques should reflect that) \nPlease note that if there are insufficient numbers to make the workshops viable\, cheques will be returned.
