  Post-1858 wills and probate records can be ordered from https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk Searches are free, but you will need to create an account to order and download a document. From Monday 17th November 2025, the cost of a document will increase from £1.50 to £16.

  That’s an extortionate increase. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about this before. I use a lot of wills in my local history research but at that price it’s not feasible. I am surprised there hasn’t been an outcry about it.
